Whitney Lundeen is the founder of Sonnet James. Lundeen is a designer and always wanted to wear the fancy dresses she dreamed of. Lundeen was a mother of two boys and she loved to play with them. Whitney didn’t wear her choice of clothes due to fear of getting them ruined while playing. Whiteny didn’t hold her wish for a long time and she decided to design an outfit for herself.

Whitney designed 12 different types of outfits which became a fashion clothing product line under the brand name Sonnet James. In August 2013, she raised funding of $58,245  through a successful Kickstarter campaign. Sonnet James designed and solved the fashion problem of women while playing with kids, doing arts and crafts, and doing various outdoor activities.

Whitney Lundeen, founder of Sonnet James came on the platform of shark tank, seeking an investment of $350,000 for a 25% equity in the business. Whitney started her pitch by explaining the business concept and handing out the samples to the sharks. Whitney shared that Sonnet James had made sales of $1.2 million last year.

When sharks asked about margin distribution, Whitney replied that Sonnet James has a margin of 75% but the rate of return is only 23%. Whitney shared her past history of how she got an addiction and faced abusive behavior in her teenage period. Kevin O’Leary had tears in his eyes after hearing that he appreciated her and said it was the best clothing pitch he had ever heard in the last 10 years.

Sara Blakely was also very impressed and she gave an offer of $350,000 for 25% equity in exchange. Sara gave the same offer Whitney had pitched for. Whitney immediately said yes and accepted Sara’s offer. All the other sharks were very happy for Whitney and wished her good luck. Kevin and the other sharks went off the pitch as Whiteny got what she asked for and what she deserved.

What happened to Sonnet James after the Shark Tank Show?

After the shark tank show, once the show aired, Sonnet James got huge traffic and popularity on the platform. After the shark tank show, there was good growth in the sales figures of businesses. During the pitch, they asked for a valuation of $1,400,000, and by the end of the pitch, Sara Blakeley offered the same valuation and the deal was made. As of 2019, the deal was not closed officially.
