Achievements of GitHub:

GitHub has seen a large jump in the year 2015. In June 2015, it opened an office outside the U.S, which is in japan. After this, Github announced that it had raised $250 million in funding some round led by Sequoia Capital. This round valued the company at approximately $2 billion.
Alexa has ranked Github at 86 and the rank is gradually increasing. As stated by the co-founder Ceo Chris on July 29, 2015, the company is planning to use the new funding into making a really big investment.

Future of Github:

Though Github is still running as an independent company after Microsoft’s approach to it. There are several changes made to it. It has several goals to fulfill in order to earn a profitable future.

There are basically three goals for GitHub:
● To ensure that it becomes the best place to run productive communities and teams.
● Making the company accessible to more developers around the world.
● Making the company more reliable, secure, and performing.

These big ambitions need commitment and seem to be real as evidenced by the rapid rollout of changes. By making lives easier for developers, Microsoft is going to make GitHub more attractive which will let GitHub build on its community. The company will gain the resulting network effects.

Other major projects like LLVM migrating to GitHub, makes it look like Microsoft’s stewardship of the service is gaining community acceptance. That’s a great success for GitHub because it’s a service that’s as easy to migrate from as it is to migrate to.
Running a business that supports open-source development needs a light touch and a sensitivity to the needs and requirements of modern application development. With Microsoft’s help at GitHub, there’s a definite sense of rejuvenation around the platform and that’s a brilliant idea.

Microsoft acquiring GitHub

The self-hosted GitLab instance is used by many of us. Self-hosted or not, GitLab is vastly superior to GitHub for FRC and organization use. After the purchase of Microsoft. The priority of the company is profit, and It can’t be seen that the goal and ethos of GitHub are staying the same as it was in the starting as it has changed from being a privately traded company to being owned by a public one. The cloud and enterprise source-management platform is making up for all the time lost with the new features and pricing of the company.
