Founder Story:
Arlene and Desiree are motorcyclists and were looking for ideas on how to keep the women riders safe on the roads with their bikes. Arlene combined her corporate and education background to research exhaustively on GoGo Gear to create the modern safe apparel designed by women for women riders.
Proudly the first fashionable protective apparel for women bike riders on the go. Made up of the latest interior engineering techniques including abrasion-resistant fabric, quality CE approved armor for the key parts like shoulder, back, and elbows. Fitted with highly reflective materials which are camouflaged and fashionable when not riding.
The idea of getting to protective apparel came into their mind when both the typical “biker gear enthusiasts” in 2008 lost their positions in the corporate world. They decided to venture into a clothing line that would suit women professionals who enjoy riding their bikes.
The question is will Sharks take the bike riders for a ride or our women riders will be able to convince sharks on their business ride?
Did GoGo Gear get a deal on Shark Tank?
The ladies came on their casual bike rider jackets and pitched GoGo Gear in the Shark Tank, seeking an investment of $300,000, for 15% equity in GoGo Gear. During the discussion, they shed their jackets to reveal stylish GoGo Gear protective wear earning awes and praises from sharks instantly.
Kevin inquired about their sales position, which Arlene clarified they already had $172,000 in sales in the last year. With 25 retail specialty stores on bikes and scooters already stocking GoGo Gear wears it was a good story to present.
Mark Cuban comes with a business angle and is interested to know how are they planning to progress with the money? Arlene responds their plan is to hit the expansion into the European market. Cuban quickly states that’s a “horrible” idea as they should concentrate on the US market building a strong market within America before exploring internationally.
Kevin and Mark are out due to a lack of clarity and focus approach from the ladies. Robert and Barbara also are out due to apprehensions.
Only shark Daymond John remains, in order to give the last push Estrada offers higher equity. While the pair consult and put a proposal for 50%. Estrada offers 55% but Robert refrains and finally, Arlene pushes to 65% but still, Robert remains out. Last-minute relief is John’s decided he is in. GoGo Gear ladies are thrilled to have got a deal in Shark Tank with Daymond John.
What Happened to GoGo Gear After Shark Tank?
The ladies did leave Shark Tank with a deal but also faced a lot of harsh attacks and strong feedback on their valuation and marketing plan. Now having sealed the deal with Daymond John finally the ladies and shark reviewed their strategy ahead. With the recession in the economy, the partners mutually agreed to reduce manufacturing to handle this period. Daymond had not handed over the check but was an adviser initially and supported their marketing plan.
GoGo Gear had a modest start before they had got shark tank investments with a small 172 K in their sales. The ladies have strengthened their business from then and now with more than 40+ employees and almost 10+k followers in Facebook and Twitter become a new craze for the women rider community.
The markets recovered and the ladies commenced manufacturing GoGo Gear products and expanding their sales in the retail segment. Profits and revenues soared. The business has rocketed its annual revenues to $7.48 million in 2021.
