What is Glow Recipe?
Glow Recipe is a K-Beauty-inspired clean skincare line that focuses on providing the best beauty products with the goodness of fruits.
It is a beauty brand that aims at providing skin care for all skin types and according to ever-changing skin needs. Starting in New York, Glow Recipe shot to fame with their watermelon skincare and later with their Glow Recipe toner.
Glow Recipe consists of a wide range of Beauty Products that include a watermelon sleeping mask, avocado eye cream, banana souffle cream, plum serum, and a lot more which are as beneficial for your skin as they are addictive.
Glow Recipe aims at giving you the comfort of simple K-Beauty while also providing your skin with an ample dose of fruit nourishment.
Founder Story:
The founders of Glow Recipe, a Korean beauty brand, ironically met as co-workers at another beauty brand, L’Oreal, Korea in 2005.
Both of them started by bonding on food and their mutual love for Korean barbeque which gradually sparked into their love for K-beauty and their families. Fast forward a few years, they got transferred to L’Oreal New York Office and bonded over sheets of beauty masks.
During one of their late-night conversations, both Chang and Lee realized their mission to bring amazing K-beauty technologies to America and play a role in making it “the next big thing”.
The pair then quit their boring corporate jobs and hence, started a revolution named Glow Recipe.
Did Glow Recipe get a deal on Shark Tank?
Sarah Lee and Christine Chang brought their Startup Glow recipe to Shark Tank in 2015. The company had about 550k in sales around that time.
The duo went in asking for $425,000 for 10% of the company, which brought it to a valuation of $4.2 million. However, most of the sharks found their brand to be highly unstable and competitive, so they regarded it as uninvestable.
The only offer that the duo had was from Shark Robert Herjavec, offering them a deal of $425,000 for an equity of 25% in the company, dropping their valuation to $1 million.
Since the founders had already built and worked in a beauty brand and were confident enough in their idea, they decided to pass the deal.
What happened to Glow Recipe after Shark Tank?
After their episode aired, Glow Recipe started drawing instant attraction from American users especially young girls who wanted to try out the Korean Beauty products, and needless to say, the company excelled on their expectations.
Being on the show provided them with the necessary exposure and publicity, enough to reach triple-digit growth.
By 2017, they had landed partnerships with QVC, Target, and Sephora across America and had launched their own Amazon store.
This K-Beauty brand has now transformed into one of the leading skincare brands in the United States and enjoys the trust of a huge satiated customer base.
