The product was introduced by an eighth-grade Kidpreneur, Carson Grill who is the co-founder and CEO of the company along with his father, Jason Grill (co-founder), they are from Cincinnati, Ohio and they both are 50-50 partners in the company.

They started the company in 2016 for this home care product and they named their company, DZ Innovations Inc. Carson came up with the idea when he was just 13 years old, and with help and support from his father, they made it into a full-fledged business venture.

The teen is a huge fan of the show and he along with his father made this product and was majorly inspired by the show and saw all the episodes in order to be completely ready for presenting the product in front of the Sharks. The company is operated from their hometown and further packaging and picking are done from Nashville, US.

The company was 70% online and 30% retail with the cost per unit being $0.99 and sold retail for $3.99 to $4.99. This 15-year-old kid holds 4 patents in total including a utility patent with the touch-up cup and three other design patents for Fresh Line Keepers (muffin, bagel, and doughnut fresh) which are ergonomically designed (Something that is designed to work smoothly with the human body) containers that keep the food fresh 3-4 fresher than conventional packaging mostly perishable food products.

Fresh line keepers were also pitched in the show and are gaining the interest of major grocery store clients and the Grills even mentioned that they are trying to do some private-label deals with some large donut franchise-type restaurants to promote and expand the product.

The father-son duo went to the show seeking an investment of $150,000 in exchange for 10% equity instead they left with a deal with guest Shark, TOMS shoe founder Blake Mycoskie: $150,000 for 17.5 percent. Blake was really impressed with the product and wanted to help make it grow.

According to Carson, the company is on track to do $400,000 in sales in 2020. In December 2020, Jason Grill announced that they are working on a private label partnership with painter’s tape brand Frog Tape and also have a relationship with Do it hardware.

Touch Up Cup has also improved its packaging and has tweaked the shaker ball inside the cup, which helps mix the paint, to make it more effective. The products are also up for another national TV appearance, “Steals & Deals,” a segment of the TODAY show which will also attract more customers and orders.

The Grills said they have been getting calls from New Zealand and Australia as well and there are a lot of people who are getting keen to interview Carson, this kid has definitely left people awe-struck with his knowledge even the panel at Shark Tank was quite impressed with how 15-year-old kid used the jargon.
