What Happend to Fried Green Tomatoes After Shark Tank?

Happiness can sometimes be found in the little things in life. It’s common knowledge that Americans are obsessed with fried food.

It should come as no surprise that fried meals have become a staple of the American diet with fast food businesses popping up everywhere.

Nonetheless, there are a few serious drawbacks to eating with friends. In general, it is calorie-dense, unhealthy, and greasy. Here comes Fried Green Tomatoes. Fried green tomatoes are still fried, yet they’re still preferable to other fried foods.

While green tomatoes themselves are abundant in nutrients like vitamin C and lycopene, they are lower in calories and fat. In 2012, Cooper launched an incredibly well-liked food truck serving classic southern fare like fried green tomatoes and po’boy sandwiches.

Her fried green tomatoes and “secret sauce” were particularly popular dishes among patrons who frequented her food truck during various festivals and events.

Cooper received so many positive comments from customers that he decided to package the batter and sauce mixes for retail sales.

Cooper said that she has been selling Fried Green Tomatoes Batter, Mix, since 2016 and has placed the product in 600 stores around 42 states in addition to her food truck, which she primarily uses for special events.

The batter mix retails for $8.99 as opposed to $1.28 a packet, which piqued the curiosity of the sharks, along with the annual sales figures.

The cumulative amount for the food truck and retail enterprises in the year before Cooper’s appearance on the show in May 2020 was $268,000.

Cooper, a former commercial salesperson and café owner, said that her dream was to franchise the food trucks.

Founder Story:

Holly Cooper started her own journey with more than eighteen years of expertise in the food sector.

She has held a variety of titles and positions, but she decided it was time to start her own business after being fired from the restaurant where she was employed.

Her idea was to open a food truck serving Southern-inspired dishes, such as fried green tomatoes. Her normal workweek entails travelling the South of the United States in her food truck and selling her food at festivals.

She perfectly fries her fried green tomatoes after setting up her fryer. They are always in high demand and have long lines to purchase them.

The fried batter and her highly guarded “sauce” recipe were the main draws of her fried green tomatoes and other meals.

She wanted to get her product in front of as many people as possible, but she did not want to divulge her recipe. She then started selling the ingredients for the sauce and batter in small packets along with the dish.

Although she only offers food from the food truck, her batter and sauce mixes can be found online or at a few other select locations.

But franchising her food truck business is her most audacious goal. Eventually, she wants to own a fleet of trucks or restaurants all throughout the nation, serving her delicious fried green tomatoes to everybody!

Did Fried Green Tomatoes get a deal on Shark Tank?

Even though O’Leary liked the food, he didn’t think Cooper’s assessment of the company was accurate, given that her asking price suggested a $1.3 million total valuation. He decided to pass since he thought it was too high.

After pointing out that Cooper and her daughter ran the company mostly, Cuban, another devotee of her cuisine, passed away. Without hiring more people and expanding the business, he thought it was not investable.

Daymond John, Barbara Corcoran, and Lori Greiner, the other three sharks on this episode, had different viewpoints. Greiner said no, saying she was more into lighter, healthier food.

John didn’t win either, but he came back to the auction when he noticed Corcoran was excited about the proposal. “I’m sure I can make you wealthy in two years,” she assured Cooper, using phrases like “gold mine” and “empire.”

The problem, of course, was that she expected to be well compensated for her work and the significant contribution she felt she could make. In exchange for the $200,000 investment, Corcoran offered 30% shares.

John tried to undercut Corcoran by lowering the stock interest to 25% in a bid, sensing her confidence in Fried Green Tomatoes’ popularity.

Cooper heeded Cuban’s counsel and continued working with Corcoran, a subject matter expert. Because Corcoran had always been her top choice because to her franchising experience, she ultimately decided to go with her.

What happened to Fried Green Tomatoes after Shark Tank?

Holly’s Shark Tank appearance caused her company’s popularity to soar.

People were thrilled with her product and enthralled with her story. That makes sense considering how well-liked your show was.

Holly was unable to pitch her products at any festivals or gatherings during the complete shutdown.

Given that this was her main source of income, it was a serious issue. Thankfully, she was able to turn around and make things different.

She had a difficult task ahead of her, but she persevered and proved her resilience. Now that things are starting to open up again, Holly has gone back to selling her wares at festivals. She’s also engaged in some fresh endeavours.

Unfortunately, the deal with Barbara had not been finalized at the time this article was written. She has created a fantastic business, though, and has managed just fine without it.

Local stores carry Holly’s sauce and batter, but she still needs to get in front of larger retailers. She hasn’t started franchising her business yet.

Though she hasn’t taken any action yet, she has expressed interest in this. She is primarily involved in Tennessee at the moment, and her product isn’t advertised on thousands of cars.

All things considered, Holly and her business have seen quite a rapid journey since their Shark Tank debut.

She has faced several huge obstacles, but she has always overcome them. We can’t wait to see what Fried Green Tomatoes has in store!

The estimated net worth of Fried Green Tomatoes is around $1.33 million.

The price of the batter and sauce hasn’t changed significantly since our previous visit. While the batter for pickles and fried tomatoes costs $10, a pack of sauce only costs roughly $4.

Is Fried Green Tomatoes still in business?

The business is still operational. The website offers information on how to become a franchisee even though there aren’t any franchises available at the moment.

Tasting Table claims that Fried Green Tomatoes hired Kala Davis, Cooper’s daughter, to market the initiative to possible franchisees. Cooper stated in 2023, “We’re ready to sell. We had a lot of interest.”
