Afresheet is a savior for people who either do not have much time on their hands or are disabled. Afresheet is a set of disposable sheets that can be ripped off easily once the sheet gets dirty or if something is spilled on it accidentally, and a new sheet is revealed.

Afresheet comes in seven layers and one set costs $29.95. The sheets are made of polyester, so whenever something is spilled, it does not reach the next layer. Afresheet is designed for the people who live in dorm rooms and thus, comes in twin extra large sizes. People living in dorm rooms do not get enough time to wash their bedsheets in the laundry. Afresheet is easy to use and can be recycled.

Who are the founders of Afresheet?

Maxwell Cohen is the founder of Afresheet. Cohen wanted to solve the problem of numerous students who study at universities, live in dorm rooms, are far from home, and do not have much time on their hands to wash their bedsheets. He designed Afresheet to tap this unexplored market and make their lives easier.

He commenced his business in May 2014 with the help of funding from his family members and friends. He initially created the product for college students but wanted to expand his line to toddlers and adults who are incontinent and hence, appeared on Shark Tank to ask for a shark’s help.

Did Afresheet get a deal on the Shark Tank?

Maxwell Cohen came to the shark tank seeking an investment of $100,000 for 20% equity in exchange. Maxwell showed a demonstration and Mr. Wonderful seemed to be indulged in his presentation. Maxwell explained the uses and the whole concept behind Afresheet. Maxwell shared how he started this business during his college days. Sharks took a few samples to get a close look and physical touch at Afresheet.

Cohen shared that to date they had sold over 400 units. Robert Herjavec shared his opinion that it’s not great, to which Mark replied that Maxwell is not competing with cotton brands. Max shared that he had received several calls from hospitals and summer camps for checking out. Max started this business with an investment of $12,000. Kevin O’Leary asked whether he had tried any big stories, to which he replied that he had endeavored with Bed Bath and Beyond but wasn’t successful at getting a place there.

Mark Cuban said that Max is not clear about his vision, he is still finding his way out and going out. Lori Greiner said she didn’t feel confident about the brand and went out. Daymond John said he was not getting any good vibes and it was too early to sit to seek investment and went out.

Robert asked about the reason behind no sales and gave him a suggestion along with an explanation and went out. Kevin O’Leary shared that he hated the whole idea and went out. No offer was placed on the table. Hence, no deal was made on the show. Maxwell was unsuccessful in getting a shark on his hook of Afresheet.

What happened to Afresheet after the Shark Tank Show?

The judgment of the sharks on the Afresheet was proved to be correct after the show. After the show aired, Afresheet got a few purchase orders, which wasn’t enough for Maxwell to lead his business ahead. After the show, In 2017, it was rebranded with a statement that it is 32% softer than before and is 100% waterproof as claimed by its founder. 

During the pitch, they came up with a valuation of $500,000, which was denied and justified as unacceptable by the sharks. On the show, Maxwell came to the show to take the sharks under his Afresheet but it turned out to be vice versa. Afresheet got a platform from Amazon to sell their sheets online worldwide. People have shared mixed reviews on Amazon about the sheets. The Afresheet rating has been changed from 2.5 to 2.7 stars and they are out of stock currently.

After the show, Maxwell sold out all the inventory he had. Sharks’ words got right when Afresheet wasn’t able to make it more after 2020. Afresheet costs $29.9 for seven layers of sheets. Afresheet was manufactured only in two sizes, twin large and twin XL, and these are the standard size for the room mattress. 

As of 2021, Afresheet has been kicked out of the market by its competitors. Afresheet is out of business. Maxwell’s LinkedIn profile says that they are coming back with a new logo, new packaging, new website and a new name. Maxwell has now tagged himself as the founder of Peel aways.
