Founder Story:
Nardo’s Natural is a family-owned and run skincare business that was founded, developed, and incorporated by four ambitious and enthusiastic brothers named, Kyle Mastronardo, K.J. Mastronardo, D.J. Mastronardo, and Danny Mastronardo in the year 2009.
The four brothers came into the show well prepared as any contestant and definitely were looking to make a deal. The brothers introduced themselves to the Sharks and told the story behind the beginning of their skincare brand from their parent’s kitchen and garage.
The idea to start this business came to the mind of the DJ as he was an established chef who had to travel around the world to perform cooking shows and demonstrations. However, on an unfortunate day, he accidentally got some serious burns on his skin but luckily, his momma cured him and also taught him the benefits of using organic oils on the skin.
Thus, after that, the brothers were hooked on natural skincare and researched deeply on it. They combined a variety of natural botanical ingredients in their quest to make creams and ointments. After that, they featured their brand on the Shark Tank show where they got a boost in their business.
Did Nardo’s Natural get a Deal on Shark Tank?
Nardo’s Natural was featured on ABC’s famous reality show Shark Tank in Season 03 and Episode 18. The owners introduced their brand to the Sharks as a company manufacturing and selling organic skin-care products which are made purely vegan from plant extracts and come with various natural benefits.
The brother DJ burned his hand while cooking and used olive oil to cure his hand to give the sharks a demonstration of their products and also make them understand the benefits of their product.
The Mastronardo Brothers asked the Sharks to invest $75,000.00 for a 12% share of the equity of their company to join their family-run business. The Sharks asked about the valuation and sales figures of their brand and they answered that they started their Organic Skin Care Business back in 2009 and since then, they had $30,000.00 in gross sales. The Sharks didn’t find the sales figures impressive.
Thus, many of them backed themselves. Kevin explained the problem behind this by noting that skincare is one of the most competitive among all the sectors in which a business can enter and told them the lack of any real marketing push for skin care products is putting them at a huge disadvantage when compared to other big brands in the segment.
However, Barbara made an offer of $75,000 in exchange for 50% equity in their company with the condition that they will alter its name as she didn’t like the name of it, although she likes the Nardo Brothers and believed that their naivety could be an asset. After a quick conversation, the Nardo Brothers accepted the deal and left the show with a new partner.
What Happened to Nardo’s Natural after Shark Tank?
After their appearance on Shark Tank, Nardo’s Natural experienced a huge increase in its sales volume due to the popularity gained by them on the show. They entered into some very exciting contracts.
In April 2012, the company partnered with MLB Pitcher David Price to introduce its new natural muscle rub, and the very next month, the company was featured on Good Morning America after this its publicity sent over one million hits to the Nardo’s Natural website.
The brand Nardo’s Natural has widened its business by introducing a variety of new product lines covering everything from skincare products like toners, moisturizers, cleansers and lotions, bathing products, lip care products, and organic eye serums, etc.
The brothers have transformed their modest skincare enterprise into a multi-million dollar empire, with 7 appearances on Good Morning America within 2 years, effectively expanding their direct sales and wholesale distribution lines.
In 2019, as eCommerce and other online sales channels have flourished in recent years, the team has shifted its focus to assist other entrepreneurs in launching their own products through a private label and contract manufacturing service. The team successfully launched over 250 brands in the previous year alone.
