Hopscotch is a fun way to learn and play. Hopscotch aims at the age group of 6- 16-year-olds and teaches them how to code. They learn to code, create artwork or games and share with others on the platform. The main motive of Hopscotch is to create a platform to teach programming to the kids in a fun way and create real software through the same.

There is a free version available but it doesn’t give the option to share the work or editing features. If a person wants these, they can try them free for a week and then pay $9.99 for a month or $80 for a year.

Who was the founder of HopScotch?

Samantha John is the founder of HopScotch. John loved and learned coding during her college period and when she became a parent, she wanted her kids to know how coding is done and developed an application for them. It is very simple to use and kids can learn and do simple coding. Once the kids learn to do coding, they can share it with other children and play games also.

Did HopScotch get a deal on Shark Tank?

HopScotch founder Samantha came on the show in season 12, episode 15 looking for investment along with experts and their expertise. Samantha asked for a pitch of $400,000 for 4% equity in return. After the demonstration of the business model, Samantha revealed that they have a subscription-based model. They are planning to make the application free and will charge on the game downloads.

All the sharks seemed confused as most of them didn’t find it investable, scalable and for the same reason, everyone went out of the pitch. Only Mark was left in the tank and Mark said that he was interested and he knew what this business actually was as his own kids use it. Mark gave an offer of $400,000 for 16%. Samantha gave a counter and after a small negotiation, they made a deal at $550,000 for 11% equity, at the valuation of $5 million.

What happened to HopScotch after Shark Tank?

After the show, there was no evidence or indication that the deal made on the show was closed between HopScotch and Shark. It is known that the deal made on the show can take up to a year but as per the 2021 report, it had not been closed till that also. The annual report after the show was around $3 million per annum.

Also, the whooping was around 500% after the air date. At the end of the year  December 2021, it was said that it will not close due to some internal reasons. The company has no plan to stop even after not getting an investment from Mark.

They had launched their game developer exchange level 1,  which is an educational, online coding program that will provide and develop coding skills in children, and build knowledge and confidence in them so that they can survive in this challenging and competitive world. Classes have a duration of 1 hour, along with personal instructors. Children also get homework and classes are held once a week.

The main agenda and goal to achieve are to make the children so knowledgeable that they can make their own video games. The cost per child was $399, and classes had been started in January 2022, and by May 2022 they made an annual revenue growth of $5million per annum.
