Who are the founders of Bridal Buddy?
Heather Stenlake is the founder of Bridal Buddy. Heather used to work in a bridal shop in Pennsylvania and used to manage everything from bagging to being a consultant for brides. Heather already knew all the problems, concerns, and queries as a consultant and the most common one was how I’d use a washroom with a bridal dress. Heather Stenlake had the idea of Bridal Buddy back in 2002 when she used to work as a consultant. She kept her idea on hold till she raised her family and their well-being.
In 2015, she got divorced due to some personal research. She took her retirement amount of $40,000 to start her business and worked on her idea and went into the market to sell and advertise her invented buddy. Heather soon launched it onto the market. She also did a Kickstarter campaign but wasn’t successful in raising funds and for that she needed to hit a shark to polish her way.
Did Bridal Buddy get a deal on Shark Tank?
Heather Stenlake, the founder of Bridal Buddy, came on Shark Tank seeking an investment of $75,000 for 10% equity in her business. Heather had appeared on the show along with a model, so when she was narrating her story, the model demonstrated Bridal Buddy. When the sharks asked about their sales, Heather shared that she had made a sale of $195,000.
They had also approached David’s Bridal but they showed no interest in them. Lori Greiner said they don’t like the potty association and went out. Mark jumped onto the pitch and said he was not made for the wedding industry and went out. Robert suggested going into the retail business because they purchase when they need it’s not all time business concept and went out. Marissa the model also spoke up on behalf of Heather. Kevin and Lori Greiner were in talks and came up with an offer of $75,000 for 25% equity each and 25% equity for Marissa.
Barbara Corcoran came up with a sharp offer of $75,000 for 1/3 of the company. Lori Greiner and Kevin O’Leary gave another offer of $75,000 for 20% equity each and Marissa went out. Heather asked Barbara Corcoran to come down to 30% equity. She agreed to do so. Lori Greiner and Kevin O’Leary immediately match the offer and Bridal Buddy goes with them.
What happened to Bridal Buddy after Shark Tank?
After the show, the deal made on the show with Lori Greiner and Kevin O’Leary was not closed. They also got invitations from various television platforms, which include; The Steve Harvey Show, and local television stations, and also appeared in magazines and print outlets.
Bridal Buddy uses all social media platforms to increase its customer numbers and works hard to convert its customers into consumers. Bridal Buddy has also tried to expand their business with a limited edition of Mermaid Buddy which is a summer-orientated version and also added a black version for black dresses.
During the pitch, they asked for a valuation of $ 750,000 and, in the end, it got valued at $ 250,000, but unfortunately, the deal was not closed after the show. Bridal Buddy didn’t stop there and has captured big retailers like 3 dozen, various bridal shops, and Bed Bath and Beyond.
Each unit of Bridal Buddy cost $14 to make and it sold for $29.95 per unit. Currently, prices have been changed from $29.95 to $39.95. As of May 2022, they are planning to come on the global market.
