Who is the founder of Doorman?
Zander Adell is the founder of Doorman which was established in the year 2011. Zander Adell had worked as the technical director at Pixar on films such as Toy Story 3 and Wall -E.
Zander Adell had faced and thought of a problem that people usually ignore or find okay to follow. Zander shared that if we order anything online, it gets delivered most likely during morning hours, also if you’re not able to take your parcel, an individual had to go to their sent location to recollect their parcel. If you live in the suburbs, the package is left on the doorstep where it gets stolen many times, and to get rid of all these unnoticeable problems, Zander found a solution to this with Doorman- the safest and most convenient mode of getting the package in your hands with security and surety.
Did Doorman get a deal on the Shark Tank?
Zander Adell came on the show to boom his business market, to enrich the Doorman to every doorstep option. Zander came on the show in season 13, episode 6 looking for an investment of $250,000 for 10% equity of his business. He explained the whole working model of Doorman and its benefits. After the business talk, Robert asked him about the customer acquisition cost which was $37, as shared by Zander.
Kevin said that he believes that FedEx and UPS can also provide this service and didn’t find much interest in Doorman and went out. Lori Greiner seemed very much interested in business but was in doubt about its growth in the future, but when Zander shared that Chicago was their next city, Lori was overwhelmed to hear that.
Barbara Corcoran and Robert Herjavec were also interested in Doorman. Barbara asked Robert and Lori to come in for an investment of $250k for a 20% stake in Doorman. Zander gave a counteroffer of $250k for 12% equity, Robert said that he was ready to go with it. Barbara Corcoran went out as humidity is less than 20% equity. Lori Greiner also gave an offer of $250 k for 15% equity in the company. Zander Adell went with Robert’s offer and took his check.
What happened to Doorman after the Shark Tank?
After the show, Doorman got fame in the market but wasn’t able to take that fame towards its growth for a longer period of time. The three million dollar seed investment helped Zander’s Doorman to grow itself and offer one-hour window shipping in Chicago and New York. Doorman usually charged $5 per visit plus $2 per package and its monthly subscription ranges from $29 to $89 per month.
According to an article on TechCrunch, Doorman halted operations on the month of October 6, the year 2017, they sent out a letter application with a request of joining a larger team but received no responses. After the show, they had again raised $1.5 million after their appearance on the show. Unfortunately, the business went out of the market in 2017, still, it is available for iPhones, and also its website is operational but there is no sense in using it as-is out of business.
During its earning stage, it used to generate its revenue through an app-based subscription model, where a subscriber can choose a subscription cost of $19.99 with a limited amount of packages to be dropped off or pay $3.99 per package delivery.
