Deidra Haysel is the founder of the company, Hot Mama Gowns. Not every entrepreneur has an emotional story connected to their business, but Deidra does. Fours years before she appeared on Shark Tank, she delivered her first daughter. She explains it to be the most beautiful yet humiliating moment.
When admitted to the hospital, the pregnant women are given unhygienic gowns which are open from the back. Wearing it becomes uncomfortable in front of many strangers and so Haysel decided to create and design gowns that are comfortable and fashionable too.
Did Hot Mama Gowns get a deal on Shark Tank?
Deidra appeared on the show seeking $30,000 for 20% and had made $11,500 to date. It had no debt or loans. However, the sharks were disappointed by the sales, also sharks like Kevin and Daymond did not get the answers they wanted.
The sharks liked the idea but said it was merely an idea and not a business and thought that the founder is not giving her 100% to the company to which Deidra disagreed. Even though the company had fewer sales, in the end, only Barbara was willing to offer a deal but was worried to work with Deidra as a partner.
Despite that, she offered $30,000 for 40% with condition that she wanted the gowns to be in only three small sizes medium, and large. Deidra found the offer a huge loss for her, and so left without any deal.
What happened to Hot Mama Gowns after Shark Tank?
It does not take a huge investment to run a business, after her appearance on the show shark tank, Deidra did not stop and continued to sell her products directly to the customers. She brought down the prices of the gowns from $119 to $69-89.
Nonetheless, Hot Mama Gowns deteriorated in 2013. The official website was taken down and the social media handles were not updated since then. The valuation of the company during the pitch was 1.5 Million.
