Founder Story:

The founders Kim Kaup and Brittany Hodak come from New York and bring to you their expertise in the music industry and publishing. The love for music started off in college as Brittany worked in multiple music companies and Kim worked in the publishing industry.

The company now has to expand and build its product lines and touch new industries one fan at a time.

Did Zinepak get a deal on Shark Tank?

The old fad of physical music CDs was revived by the two owners of ZinePak, and it felt as if they truly lived and breathed the music industry as said by Brittany.

They started the company off in 2010 with the physical CD distribution soaring and then introducing new products into the market like magazines and collectible tickets and much much more.

Now their next goal is to touch other verticals and be part of a superfan’s life everywhere. By that we mean may it be the next big game, music concert, or costume party.

They explain to the sharks the story of how the company has reached 30 million in sales up to date and how they want the shark’s help to grow. They currently have one customer that is helping them soar the sales like anything and that is Walmart.

They want to be exclusive and want to cater to their market segment in the best way possible. Being a marketing agency, the marketing skills really paid off for this company.

Kevin was the first for  725,000 for  35%, mark was out as he didn’t see the scale of the business. Daymond was next to offer 725, 000 for 30%. Then Lori said that even though CDs are diminishing in the market today, people get the value of keeping something as a collectible after it is gone. This gave a belief to the owners that the intended message was conveyed.

Lori made an offer with Robert at 725,000 for 20%. Daymond hear the offer and immediately lowers down to 25%. Brittany says that they estimate year-end sales to be 4 million and Kevin goes down to 30%. Finally, Brittany says that they are interested in a deal at 14%. Lori decides to meet in the middle and says let’s do it at 17.5%. After some discussion, the deal is accepted.

What happened to Zinepak after Shark Tank?

The company saw the end of its growth in 2018 when the company decided to close due to the entry of Brittany’s son into her life. She had to take the decision of being part of a single direction as to whether she should continue with her business or take care of her son.

Brittany Hodak mentioned this on her website regarding the update:

I’m so fortunate to get to spend my time speaking, writing, consulting, and researching a subject I’m so passionate about! The Superfan Company (formerly ZinePak) is still doing great under the leadership of my founding partners, working with some of the world’s greatest entertainers. And, although I’m no longer active in the day-to-day of the company, I’ll always be proud of what my team and I built… and a little excited when I think about the millions of collectibles that will be unearthed in garages, basements, and storage units around the world decades from now.

Now, they have changed their name again to Bright Ideas Only. Their words:

We have good news and bad news.
The icing on our COVID-filled-2020-cake was a cease-and-desist for trademark infringement on the word ‘superfan’. Nothing like a global pandemic to bring out the lawyers! But we believe we’re only given what we can handle.

So given our changing landscape of work, this new post-pandemic world and our personal journeys, we are excited to let you know…it’s Bright Ideas Only from here on out. Both literally (that’s our new company name!) and figuratively (no bad ideas please, we’re allergic).

Thanks for sticking with us through the different eras: ZinePak, The Superfan Company and now Bright Ideas Only (we’re feeling very Taylor Swift over here)!

Product details:

  • Available in the form of magazines, Cd recordings, and ticket collectibles.
  • Started the company in 2010, while the idea started in 2004
  • The superfans have more than 75 music artists to choose from.
  • They have three types of subscriptions for one month, one year, and one year with a magazine.

What is the net worth of ZinePak?

In their Shark Tank pitch, founders Brittany Hodak and Kim Kaupe asked for $725,000 for a 5% equity stake in the company, valuing ZinePak at $7.25 million. The net worth of this company was around $4.14 million when the product aired on shark tank, as per the Sharks.

Is ZinePak still in business?

They are still in operation under the new name Bright Ideas Only, changed from Zinpak to The Superfan Company to Bright Ideas Only.
